Retail staff wheeling into work at The Junction Cambridge Close Retail Park
The Junction is pleased to be working with Buckinghamshire County Council, to support National Bike Week and 'Cycle Aylesbury', to encourage staff at all the retail stores on their Cambridge Close Retail Park in Aylesbury to cycle into work. A Biker's Breakfast was provided on Monday 18 June, with breakfast supplied by Buckinghamshire County Council's Travelchoice Team. There was also an opportunity for cyclists to have their bikes serviced by Andrew Jackson, a specialist from Cycle Fleet UK. The week-long event is expected to persuade many of the retail staff at Cambridge Close to try commuting by bike instead of travelling by car, especially if their journey is less then 5 miles. The Junction is also offering the retail stores the added incentive of a prize of £250 to be donated to the local charity of choice for the store with the highest ratio of people cycling in on that day. National Bike week is an annual event, organised in association with the Department for Transport, Cycle England, Bike Hub and other national strategies, and is expected to attract over 250,000 participants at more than 1,500 events across the country. Lois Williams, Responsible Business Manager at The Junction comments: "This is a great opportunity for us to support and facilitate an event which contributes to a healthier community. We are committed to greener travel to all our parks, and hope that this event will encourage more of our retailers' staff to consider the healthier and often faster option of cycling to work in the morning. Our aim is to keep investing in our retail parks to improve the facilities on offer, such as increasing the number of bike racks available, showers for staff cycling to work and better public transport accessibility." Valerie Letheren, Cabinet Member for Transportation said: "The Bike2Work week initiative goes from strength to strength each year, and this year promises to be no exception. Everyone involved in organising this event has worked really hard to make the week one to remember and hopefully inspire even more people to use their bike and leave the car at home."
